A good friend is like a four leaf clover,

Hard to find, and lucky to have.

-Irish Proverb

Liadh walked into Nellie’s and looked around the pub. It was warm outside and busloads of tourists filled the wooden benches. Liadh smiled to herself as she heard the different accents and languages around her. People were digging into bowlfuls of seafood chowder and BBQ wings, washed down with pints of Guinness. Across the small road, the Blarney woollen mills were busy and people were hanging around and walking up and down the road that led to Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. Liadh waved at some of the locals that recognised her from the medical practice. One month left and Kilvarna was feeling more and more like home, Liadh was secretly dreading going back to Dublin. Waving to the group of O’Malleys that were taking up most of the left hand side of the pub, she pushed passed customers and made her way over to the group.

“Over here Liadh, I have a Bailey’s waiting for you,” Aoife grabbed her arm and pulled her through the crowd.

“Thanks Aoife,” Liadh said taking a sip from her drink. She closed her eyes as the creamy liquid warmed the back of her throat.

Liadh spotted Bonnie and waved over at her. Bonnie deep in a heated discussion with Darragh, crossed her eyes playfully and waved at her in an exaggerated manner. Liadh rolled her eyes at her and pretended to swat her away like an annoying fly.

Aoife bumped her shoulder affectionately.

“I hope you are enjoying your holiday Liadh, yourself and Bonnie are practically family at this stage.” Liadh looked at her and smiled, warmth radiating from her beautiful face.

“Thanks Aoife, I’ve certainly been made feel welcome, by you all.”

“Rían especially, I’d say,” Aoife said with a small smile.

“Yes. Rían especially,” Liadh repeated, meeting Aoife’s eyes and winking at her.

Bonnie and Darragh suddenly burst out laughing and Liadh and Aoife raised their eyebrows at each other. Bonnie sure was settling in nicely in Kilvarna. Liadh watched them talking and noticed how Darragh used every opportunity to touch Bonnie’s arm when he spoke to her. Bonnie flicked back her hair and Darragh bent down and whispered into her ear. Hmm, Bonnie, Bonnie, Bonnie, don’t go breaking his heart.

“What are you smiling at Beautiful?” Rían came up behind her and put his arms around her waist. He kissed her lightly on the cheek and put his face against hers. Liadh turned her head and smiled up at him.

“Oh just Bonnie and your brother. I’m not sure what she’s up to, but he seems to be enjoying it.”

Rían looked over at the two of them and nodded.

“It would do Darragh no harm to loosen up and relax. He takes his job of big brother far too seriously.” Liadh nodded and smiled.

“I have no doubt that Bonnie will loosen him right up. I’m going to the bathroom. Back in a minute.”

Liadh went upstairs to the bathroom and closed the cubicle door behind her. Sitting down, she heard the click click of shoes as the door in the cubicle beside her opened and closed.
